What an affiliate link is

A normal link to a retailer with a tracking code attached, so that retailer knows the visit came from here. If you buy something during that visit, the retailer pays us a small percentage. The price you pay is identical either way; the commission comes out of the retailer’s margin, not your pocket.

On this site every commercial link routes through our own /go/ address before continuing to the retailer. That is a redirect we control, and it exists so that changing where a link points is a one-line configuration change rather than a rewrite of every page mentioning that product. It is not tracking you — it records nothing about you personally, and our privacy policy covers what is and is not collected.

Who we currently earn from

Renter Volt is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to Amazon.com. We earn from qualifying purchases.

That is currently the only program we are part of — 1 active merchant relationship, which is Amazon. We have joined no other affiliate networks, and we will not construct a tracked link for a program we have not joined. If that changes, this page changes with it.

How commission is kept out of the rankings

• Commission rate is not a ranking factor. It is not one of the criteria on the methodology page and it does not enter the judgment.
• Buyer-first on retailer choice. Where a cheaper option pays us less, the cheaper option is still the primary button.
• Every pick names who should skip it. A recommendation with a stated counterweight is harder to write and much harder to corrupt.
• Prices are live, or they are absent. We never display a remembered number, which removes the incentive to leave a flattering old price on a page.
• No free products, ever, from anybody. We have accepted none and we are not going to. It also means we cannot claim to have tested anything, which is stated everywhere it is relevant.

Where the disclosure appears

• In the footer of every page on the site.
• In a panel above the first buy link on every page that recommends a product.
• Under every individual buy button, marked #ad, alongside a link back to this page.
• Here, in full.

That is more places than strictly required. The FTC expects a disclosure to be clear and conspicuous rather than technically present, and a reader who reaches a buy button without having seen one has not really been told.

What we are not

We are not a retailer, we do not sell anything, and we do not hold stock. We are not the merchant on any transaction, which is also why our structured data does not assert shipping terms or return policies — those belong to whoever you actually buy from, and stating them on their behalf would be making up facts.

We are also not a testing organization, and the methodology page says so at length. Nothing here has been tested by us.
