What those numbers mean
Get the direction right before the brand. This adapter goes on a Tesla-shaped plug so a J1772 car can take it. If you drive a Tesla and the building's charger is J1772, you need the opposite adapter and this one will not physically fit.
The 48 amp rating is the adapter's ceiling. It does not raise anything: the slowest link in the chain — station, adapter, cable, car — sets the speed.
AC only, and that is a property of the adapter rather than a limitation to work around. Superchargers are DC and use an entirely different UL standard.

What those numbers mean
A published operating temperature range is rarer in this category than it should be, and it is the figure that matters if your car lives in an uncovered lot through a real winter.
IP67 is the unmated rating — the adapter sitting in a puddle. IP54 mated is the number that applies while it is actually plugged in, and it is the more useful of the two.
80A and 277V are far above anything a residential AC source produces. Treat them as headroom, not as speed.

Skip this one if: The adapter will live in a glovebox and get used indoors in a mild climate. You are paying for sealing and a temperature range that will never be tested.
How fast will it charge?
Whatever the station supplies, up to what your car accepts. A Tesla Wall Connector on a residential circuit typically delivers up to 40 or 48 amps at 240V; the adapters here are rated at 48 and 80 amps, so the adapter is not the constraint. Your car's onboard charger usually is.

Station 40A, adapter 48A, car 32A → 32 × 240 ÷ 1000 = 7.7 kW, about 27 miles per hour.
The car is the limit in that example, which is the usual case. What amp rating you need walks the full chain.
The etiquette part, which is not nothing
In a shared building, destination chargers are a shared resource and the social rules are unwritten but real. Two things keep this working for everybody:
- Move the car when it is done, or set a charge limit so it finishes at a predictable time. A car sitting at 100% on a shared charger for nine hours is the single most common complaint in apartment EV groups.
- Leave the cable as you found it. Hung up, connector off the ground, adapter removed and taken with you.
That second point is also self-interest: an adapter left on a shared cable overnight is the easiest thing in the building to walk away with. If you would rather leave it in place, a lock is a few dollars.

Can a non-Tesla use a Tesla charger?
At AC chargers — Wall Connectors, Destination Chargers and Mobile Connectors — yes, with a NACS-to-J1772 adapter. At Superchargers, not with these adapters; those are DC and use different equipment.
Will a Tesla to J1772 adapter slow my charging?
No. The adapters are rated at 48 to 80 amps, well above what any AC station supplies. The limiting factor is normally your car's onboard charger.
Is it allowed to use a building's Tesla charger with an adapter?
That is a building policy question rather than a technical one, and most buildings treat installed chargers as a shared amenity. Ask, and follow whatever the local etiquette is about moving the car when it finishes.
