Both directions are on this page deliberately. Splitting them into separate lists is how people end up on the wrong one, and the wrong-direction purchase is a bigger risk in this category than picking a mediocre brand. Check the direction against the one-line rule before you look at anything else here.
What actually differs between these
Less than the marketing suggests. All four carry a UL coupler certification, all four are rated far above any residential AC supply, and at the same current they deliver identical power. Three things genuinely separate them:

What those numbers mean
A published operating temperature range is rarer in this category than it should be, and it is the figure that matters if your car lives in an uncovered lot through a real winter.
IP67 is the unmated rating — the adapter sitting in a puddle. IP54 mated is the number that applies while it is actually plugged in, and it is the more useful of the two.
80A and 277V are far above anything a residential AC source produces. Treat them as headroom, not as speed.

What those numbers mean
Get the direction right before the brand. This adapter goes on a Tesla-shaped plug so a J1772 car can take it. If you drive a Tesla and the building's charger is J1772, you need the opposite adapter and this one will not physically fit.
The 48 amp rating is the adapter's ceiling. It does not raise anything: the slowest link in the chain — station, adapter, cable, car — sets the speed.
AC only, and that is a property of the adapter rather than a limitation to work around. Superchargers are DC and use an entirely different UL standard.

What those numbers mean
The locking pin is the differentiator and it addresses a real failure: an adapter that separates when someone brushes the cable ends the charging session, and you find out in the morning.
Type 3R is an enclosure classification for outdoor use against falling rain. Together with IP54 it describes an adapter meant to stay connected outside, not one meant to be sheltered.
19.2 kW is the theoretical AC ceiling of the standard, not a speed you will see. No residential circuit a renter can reach produces it.

What those numbers mean
Most public and workplace AC charging in the US is still J1772, and most Teslas ship without an adapter for it. This is the part that fills that gap, and it lives in the frunk.
IP67 is the strongest ingress rating of any adapter here — dust tight and rated for temporary immersion rather than just spray. That is the specification to want for something left connected outdoors overnight, though it is still worth keeping the coupling out of standing water.
80A is roughly double what any Level 2 AC station will hand you, so the adapter is never the limiting factor in the chain. The built-in temperature monitoring is the more meaningful feature: it is watching the connection you are not.

The 80 amp headline, in context
Two of these are rated at 80 amps and one at 48. In residential terms that difference is theoretical: the fastest plug-in AC charging a renter can reach is 40 amps on a 50 amp circuit, and most reachable circuits are smaller than that. The 80 amp rating buys headroom and contact margin rather than speed, and headroom on a connection running for eight hours is not nothing — but do not read it as a performance figure.
Which one to actually buy
- Lives in the glovebox, used occasionally, mild climate: the cheaper certified option in your direction is genuinely fine.
- Lives outdoors, plugged in every night, real winter: pay for the published temperature range and the mated IP figure.
- Shared parking structure: whichever you choose, add a lock. The adapter is the most stealable item in the setup.
- Two cars with different inlets: buy one of each direction rather than a second charger.
What we could not check
Contact wear over hundreds of cycles, real-world thermal behavior at sustained current, and long-term seal integrity. Those require a test program we do not have, and we are not going to imply otherwise. What we did instead is compile the published specifications, note where a manufacturer publishes a certificate number and where one does not, and flag the specs that are missing. Questions people actually ask
What is the best NACS adapter?
In either direction, one with a published UL 2251 or UL 2252 certification, a stated mated ingress rating and a published operating temperature range. Direction matters more than brand: the second name in the product title should be your car's connector.
Do I need an 80 amp adapter?
Not for speed. Residential AC charging tops out at 40 amps, so an 80 amp rating is headroom rather than performance. It is worth something on a connection carrying current for eight hours a night, but it will not charge your car faster.
Are NACS adapters safe?
Certified ones are engineered for exactly this duty and carry a UL coupler listing. The risk sits with unlisted parts carrying full charging current unattended, which is why a published certification number is the specification worth insisting on.
Can I leave an adapter connected outside overnight?
If it publishes a mated ingress rating — typically IP54 — and an operating temperature range that covers your climate, yes. Keep it off standing ground and use a drip loop at the outlet.
